GLOBAL MARKET FOR PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE WORTH $79.2 BILLION IN 2013

The pediatric market encompasses a variety of markets, each creating a substantial financial burden on the medical system and families while continuing opportunities for pharmaceutical manufacturers, therapy providers and educators.
 
Children and adolescents comprise nearly 25% of the world’s population, and considerable resources are spent annually on care and development for this population. While short-term illnesses, including ear infections, gastrointestinal illnesses and upper respiratory illnesses occur frequently in the pediatric and adolescent population, chronic illnesses such as asthma and diabetes are reaching what health officials have categorized as epidemic proportions.
 
Some chronic illnesses result from genetic or inherited conditions, others from environmental factors. Prenatal care for the mother and fetus is especially important as exposure to tobacco smoke, alcohol and other toxins can significantly affect a baby’s health.
