Wire and Cable: Materials, Technologies and Global Markets
June 29, 2011
Wellesley, Mass. – In a recent release, WIRE AND CABLE: MATERIALS, TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (AVM072A) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for wire and cable materials and technologies was worth $127 billion in 2010. That value is projected to be $200 billion in 2015, after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4%.
The global wire and cable market can be broken down into two segments by application – power cables and telecommunications cables.
The segment made up of power cables was valued at $98 billion in 2010, and in 2015 should be worth $150 billion, yielding a CAGR of 9%.
The segment made up of telecom cables was worth $29 billion in 2010 and should reach a value of $49 billion in 2015, a CAGR of 11%.
Cables and wires are considered one of the most commonplace indicators of a wide range of technologies existing in various stages of sophistication. They are used primarily to do two things: transmit power, and transmit telecommunications payloads and signals.
The market for cables and wires is large and diverse, and at times volatile. The volatility can be tied to the raw material costs on the supply side, and as a result, pricing trends and demands are not entirely driven by market demand. Another characteristic of the market is that it is non-homogenous, that is the end-user profiles include wholesale purchasers, telecom operators, retail users, utility managers, power supply companies, and enterprises. Buyers can enjoy leverage proportional to purchase volumes, and inversely proportional to the importance of cables and wires in their operations.
The report will have a broad audience, but will be most relevant to cable equipment manufacturers, electrical component vendors, electronic device vendors, power and energy suppliers, telecom operators, and domestic retail and corporate users.
