Amino acids are necessary for the proper development of humans and animals. However, most species do not have the enzymes necessary to produce all the essential amino acids. These acids help form proteins that are necessary for muscle, tissue and organ development. In addition, protein is required for cell metabolism and the formation of hormones and antibodies, which are all critical functions of life. In fact, protein makes up the second largest portion of body weight.
Every protein contains a unique amalgamation containing one or more of the 20 protein amino acids. Individual amino acids may be contained in numerous different protein combinations, and in differing proportions. The acids are combined into linear protein structures demarcated in the genetic code.
