Therapeutics for Immune System Disorders
July 25, 2011
Wellesley, Mass. – In a recent release, THERAPEUTICS FOR IMMUNE SYSTEM DISORDERS (BIO025D) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global sales of drugs for immune diseases was $72.2 billion in 2010. That value is projected to reach $82.2 billion in 2015, after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.6%.
The market for immune system disorder therapeutics can be broken down into two segments – immunomodulators and symptom-treating drugs.
In 2010, the value of the segment made up of immunomodulators was worth $62.8 billion, and in 2015 that value is expected to reach $74.1 billion, yielding a CAGR of 3.4%.
The segment made up of symptom-treating drugs was valued at $9.4 billion in 2010, and in 2015 that value is expected to be $8.1 billion, after decreasing at a CAGR of -3.1%.
There has been an explosion in knowledge concerning the immune system, and tremendous advancements in immune disease diagnosis. Therapies with novel approaches are replacing the traditional methods in which emphasis was to treat the symptoms in order to improve the quality of life of the patient rather than treating the underlying cause of a disease. Over the past decade, this new approach to immune diseases has resulted in a wealth of new drugs and procedures that selectively target the causes of immune disease. This report forecasts that this trend will continue for at least the next five years, acting as a major driver for the immune disease drug market.
The study will be of primary interest to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and those working in conjunction with them. Investors will also find the report particularly interesting, since it analyzes the future potentials of major players and products in the field in a neutral manner.
