Commercial Building Automation Products: Technologies and Global Markets
July 19, 2012
Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, COMMERCIAL BUILDING AUTOMATION PRODUCTS: TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (IFT010C) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for building automation systems was valued at $71.5 billion in 2011 and is projected to reach $88.2 billion in 2016, a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.3%.
The building automation systems market can be split into five segments based on product: HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), lighting, energy, security, and building management system (BMS).
The HVAC segment totaled $34.6 billion in 2011 and is expected to account for nearly $41.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 3.9%.
The lighting segment totaled $15.2 billion in 2011 and is expected to account for $18.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 4.5%.
The energy segment, worth nearly $12.5 billion in 2011, is projected to total more than $15.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 5.1%.
The security segment was valued at nearly $5.5 billion in 2011 and should total nearly $6.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 4.6%.
And the smallest segment, BMS, was valued at $3.7 billion in 2011 and is expected to reach $4.6 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 4.5%.
Computer technology has had a major impact on many businesses, speeding up development cycles, increasing efficiency, and providing more complete pictures of operation. A similar transformation also has been taking place in the building management market. Stand-alone applications such as security systems have been tied to central building automation systems. As a result, a company can now manage its property more effectively. Facilities managers no longer need to bounce among a variety of different interfaces to determine the cause of a problem.
In general, items such as light switches and heating ducts have had little to no intelligence. Companies need a simple and efficient way to get information to these devices. Recent developments such as with Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) have provided companies with the means for making these connections.
This report will help its audience:
- Investigate trends in building automation, with emphasis on energy management and the growing need for security systems
- Analyze total building automation market projections through 2016, as well as individual building automation segments
- Quantify differences between revenues for equipment (hardware, software, networks) and for consulting services (design, installation, training, operations, maintenance)
- Understand why forces are driving increasing sophistication and overall amounts of building automation systems.
This report was prepared for individuals who are interested in the building management systems market. Those individuals include vendors involved in the research, development, manufacturing, or marketing of these products. In addition, commercial facilities managers may find the report useful because they can use the information to determine the steps they need to take to ensure that their services remain competitive. Lastly, financial analysts can benefit from the report. They will be able to determine the market potential for various products and evaluate the performance of various vendors in this space.
