Ultrasonics: Technologies and Global Markets
July 08, 2011
Wellesley, Mass. – In a recent release, ULTRASONICS: TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (MFG013D) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for ultrasonics is worth nearly $17.6 billion in 2011. That value is projected to be $27.7 billion in 2016, after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.6%.
The global market for ultrasonics can be broken down into three segments – motors, actuators, spares and consumables; medical and miscellaneous equipment; and processing, assembling/testing equipment.
The segment made up of motors, actuators, spares and consumables totaled $7 billion in 2011, and in 2016 should be $12.1 billion, yielding a CAGR of 11.4%.
The segment made up of medical and miscellaneous equipment was $6.1 billion in 2011 and in 2016 should be nearly $9.7 billion, growing at a CAGR of 9.5%.
The segment made up of processing, assembling/testing equipment was $4.4 billion in 2011 and in 2016 should increase to $6 billion, a CAGR of 6.4%.
Ultrasonics is the study and application of the energy of sound waves vibrating at frequencies greater than 20,000 cycles per second, which is beyond the range of human hearing. The application of ultrasonics has found widespread use, including in nondestructive testing, cleaning, welding, applications in medicine, and many other uses, such as the dog whistle.
While improvements are being made in older domains such as music and voice reproduction, ultrasonics is more recently growing in industries such as materials science, dentistry, oceanology, marine navigation, petroleum and mineral prospecting, mechanical processes, and noise cancellation. Healthy growth over the next five years can be expected due to this wide range of applications.
This report will be most useful to marketing managers, research and development professionals, business development executives, and information and research center librarians for market analysis, as well as anyone interested in learning more about ultrasonics and its future.
