REPORT HIGHLIGHTS

  • The global WMS market, including software, hardware and professional services, has grown steadily since the first systems were introduced in the mid-1980s. The growing popularity of the Internet as a sales channel helped propel total WMS sales to more than $1.8 billion in 2001.
  • The market is projected to approach $4.9 billion in 2006, a 22% average annual growth rate (AAGR).
  • The emerging markets of Asia and Latin America should experience the most rapid growth, increasing their share of the world market to 13% in 2006. In contrast, both North America and the traditional markets of Asia-Pacific are expected to lose market share, North America from 53% to 50% and Asia-Pacific from 13% to 11%.
  • While the Tier 1 market segment (end-users with annual revenues over $1 billion) will continue to grow in dollar terms, it will go on losing market share to Tier 2 ($250 million - $1 billion) and Tier 3 (less than $250 million) end-users. WMS sales to Tier 3 firms are expected to grow at an AAGR of 30%, compared with 23% for Tier 2 and 15% for Tier 1.
