April 15, 2010
Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, HIGH-PERFORMANCE CERAMIC COATINGS: MARKETS AND TECHNOLOGIES (AVM015E) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the North American market value of high-performance ceramic coatings was an estimated $1.4 billion in 2009, but is expected to increase to more than $2 billion in 2014, for a 5-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6%.
The largest segment of the market, thermal spray coatings, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% to reach more than $1.4 billion in 2014. Its value is estimated at $953 million in 2009.
The second-largest segment, chemical vapor deposition, is estimated at $183 million in 2009, down from $213 million in 2008. It is expected, however, to increase by a 5-year CAGR of 3.8% to reach nearly $221 million in 2014.
The physical vapor deposition segment is projected to have a 5-year CAGR of 7.4%, rising from $187 million in 2009 to nearly $267 million in 2014.
Another segment, made up of other technologies, including spraying/dipping, sol gel, micro–oxidation, and laser-assisted techniques, is expected to increase at a healthy CAGR of 10.2% between 2009 and 2014, growing from $72 million to $117 million.

Surface modification using ceramic coatings has achieved an important place in the industrial environment over the past several decades. High-performance ceramic coatings constitute a mature but still-expanding industry with a broad list of current and potential applications, continuously emerging coating techniques, and a growing list of materials compositions.
This new BCC study provides an in-depth analysis of the materials, applications, economics, current markets and trends, and the players. It describes various kinds of ceramic deposition technologies, new developments and recent patents, advantages and limitations of currently used techniques, and profiles of all North American players involved in this industry.
