WELLESLEY, Mass., May 15, 2018– Polymer derived ceramics, a new class of advanced materials which feature lower fabrication temperatures and improved cost efficiency, will experience an increased usage in the aerospace, energy, industrial, semiconductor and electronics industries, according to a report by BCC Research.
The global market is expected to see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.2% through 2022, when it could be worth $712.4 million, according to the report Polymer Derived Ceramics: Global Markets to 2022.
Major players in the market include UBE Industries, Nippon Carbon Co., COI Ceramics Inc., Matech, KiON, Starfire Systems Inc., Plasma Processes, Kyocera Corp., Hitachi Chemicals Ltd., Ants Ceramics, Japan Fine Ceramics and CeramTec.
“Polymer derived ceramics represent a powerful tool for advanced ceramics,” the report states. “Their key advantage over conventional powder synthesis procedures is the possibility of adopting plastic-forming techniques such as fiber-spinning, foaming, warm pressing, extrusion, injection-molding or resin transfer molding to generate shaped components based on the requirement and later transformed into the desired ceramic parts.”
Main Growth Opportunities Include Technological Advancements and Nanotechnology
Increased demand for lightweight aircraft engine and industrial components presents tantalizing growth opportunities for the industry, the report notes. New technologies are being developed to manufacture polymer-derived ceramics with a wide range of properties and structurally efficient capabilities to meet these demands. Meanwhile, increasing demand for miniaturized technologies is presenting opportunities to introduce nanomaterials, nano-pillars, nanoparticles and nanorods into fields ranging from electronics to energy, all of which require polymer derived ceramics, meaning there are huge opportunities to grow the market in the direction of nanotechnology.
