Flow Cytometery: Products, Technologies and Global Markets
August 24, 2011
Wellesley, Mass. – In a recent release, FLOW CYTOMETRY: PRODUCTS, TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (BIO085A) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global flow cytometry market was valued at more than $2.6 billion in 2010. That number is projected to reach $4.3 billion in 2015 after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.4%.
The global flow cytometry market can be broken down into four segments by product – instruments, reagents, software, and services.
The segment made up of instruments was valued at more than $1.4 billion in 2010, and is expected to climb to nearly $2.3 billion in 2015, yielding a CAGR of 9.8%.
The segment made up reagents was valued at $868 million in 2010 and should grow to $1.5 billion in 2015, a CAGR of 11.9%.
The software segment, valued at $192 million in 2010, should rise to $293 million in 2015 after growing at a CAGR of 8.8%.
The segment made up of services was worth nearly $152 million in 2010 and in 2015 should be valued at $222 million, a CAGR of 7.9%.
Increasing research and commercialization in the field of life sciences such as proteomics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, and stem cell research have resulted in a boost for high-throughput technologies such as the flow cytometry market. Flow cytometry is a technology designed to measure and analyze multiple characteristics of cells through a beam of light while they are in fluid suspension.
There have been significant product advancements in the flow cytometry market, and these advancements have been major market growth drivers. The growing needs and challenges of the researcher in advanced cellular research and a pressing need for novel methods for laboratory clinical testing have continuously set a challenge for manufacturers to formulate products accordingly. Automation of sample handling is one such development that has increased the number of samples handled per minute from less than two to several thousand currently.
Several constraints exist, however, such as increased equipment costs, that are hindering market growth. High operational sophistication and space requirements of current flow cytometry technologies are also considered constraints.
The key audience for this report includes research and development directors, CEOs, and marketing managers of flow cytometry and allied technology manufacturers and service providers, as well as universities, research centers, and consulting firms.
