Global Markets for Catalyst Regeneration

March 05, 2012

Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, GLOBAL MARKETS FOR CATALYST REGENERATION (CHM046B) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for catalyst regeneration was valued at nearly $3.5 billion in 2011 and is expected to increase to over $4.1 billion in 2016, a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.8%.

The catalyst regeneration market can be broken down into two main segments: off-site and on-site regeneration.

The off-site regeneration segment accounted for nearly $2.2 billion in 2011 and is expected to increase at a CAGR of 5.4% to reach $2.8 billion in 2016.

The on-site regeneration segment accounted for nearly $1.3 billion in 2011 and is expected to increase at a CAGR of 0.7% to surpass $1.3 billion in 2016.

The environmental impact of any product is a major consideration along the whole process.  Gone are the days when a spent catalyst was simply dumped and replaced with fresh material.  Today catalyst users look to regenerate, recycle, recover and reuse their spent material, with landfill the final destination after all other avenues have been explored.

Catalysts are assets that have to be managed with the aim of maximizing the value locked within.  Successful regeneration can return the spent catalysts to acceptable levels of activity, resulting in substantial savings for a catalyst user in overall operating costs.

The regeneration market will continue to benefit from low-growth economies and recession-type market conditions because users will look to control costs and create savings. However, the demand for fresh catalysts based on improved performance will outstrip the value of regeneration because the prices of various metal actives have increased substantially over recent years and are forecast to continue as supply of these types of materials is short leading to a tighter market.

This study will be most useful to senior petrochemical executives, process licensors and engineering contractors, plant and operations directors, engineering and technology manufacturers and providers, process and technology support advisors, petrochemical and refining management specialists, logistical, supply chain and e-business specialists, automotive companies, environmental consultants, equipment manufacturers and process designers, and venture capitalists.
