Petrochemical (Petroleum and Chemical) Catalysts: The U.S. Market
June 21, 2011
Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, PETROCHEMICAL (PETROLEUM AND CHEMICAL) CATALYSTS: THE U.S. MARKET (CHM027D) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the U.S. market for petroleum and chemical catalysts was worth $4.1 billion in 2010, but is expected to increase to more than $4.6 billion in 2015, for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5%.
The largest segment of the market, chemical catalysts, includes two subsegments – chemical processes and polymerization. The chemical subsegment is expected to increase at a 5-year CAGR of 2.3%, rising from nearly $1.4 billion in 2010 to more than $1.5 billion in 2015.
The polymerization subsegment is projected to be valued at nearly $1.5 billion in 2015, after rising at a CAGR of 2.7% from its 2010 value of $1.3 billion.
The refinery catalysts segment is expected to rise from $1.4 billion in 2010 to more than $1.6 billion in 2015, for a CAGR of 2.5%.
Catalysts for chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum refining processes constitute a significant business in the United States, and this report is an update by the same author of a BCC Research report on this subject published in January 2006. Since that time, the industry has progressed, with new products and new challenges, the latter in large part arising from the economic challenges of recovery from the Great Recession, and also from implementation of environmental regulations for petroleum fuel products that were enacted a few years ago.
BCC’s goal in this report is to describe the compounds, products, and markets for catalysts that we describe as “petrochemicals.” That is, catalysts which are used in petroleum refining; in petrochemical processes in which the feedstocks come from crude oil or natural gas; and in chemical reactions/processes in which the feedstock materials may come from other sources. This is big business; the petrochemical industry in the U.S., driven by production of synthetic polymers, is one of the nation’s largest.
This report is intended to assist those involved in several different segments of the U.S. industrial and commercial business sectors. These organizations and people include those who are involved in the development, formulation, manufacture, sale, and use of catalysts, catalytic processes, and ancillary businesses such as catalyst supports, additives, and regeneration. This audience includes process and product development experts, process and product designers, purchasing agents, construction and operating personnel, marketing staff, and top management.
