WELLESLEY, Mass., Aug 23, 2018 – Due to their health benefits and peaked interest in probiotics for food and beverages, dietary supplements and animal feed, the global market for probiotics is expected to see substantial growth, according to a new report from BCC Research.
In 2016, the global market for probiotics was worth $36.6 billion. BCC Research estimates that it will be valued at $57.2 billion by 2022, indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.8% from 2017 to 2022, according to the recently published report The Probiotics Market: Ingredients, Supplements, Foods.
Key participants in the probiotics market include BioGaia, Chr. Hansen Holding, Danone, DuPont, Probi, Nestlé, Morinaga, Lifeway, Megmilk and Yakult.
“Probiotics are extant microorganisms that prevent and cure diseases in human beings,” said BCC Research analyst and the report’s author Aneesh Kumar. “It is a misconception that all microorganisms such as bacteria are harmful. In fact, there are good and bad bacteria, which can be curative and dangerous, respectively. Probiotics belong to the former group and help keep our bodies healthy. Their function is not limited to human beings; they also help keep animals healthy.”
