Wellesley, Mass., Jan 11, 2017 –Stricter regulations governing emission standards are keying growth of the global market for volatile organic compound (VOC) gas detectors. BCC Research reveals in its new report that the market's 2.6% growth rate in 2016 largely derives from the increasing application of VOC gas detectors to curb indoor emissions from consumer goods.
A VOC gas detector is used primarily to detect the concentration of different types of VOC gases such as benzene, xylene, toluene, formaldehyde and many others for industry, such as oil and gas, chemical, transportation, and indoor applications. VOC active detectors measure the molecular structure of the VOCs in the environment and atmosphere, and VOC passive devices monitor cumulative non-specific VOCs over time.
The global market for VOC gas detectors should grow from $131.4 million in 2016 to $154.7 million by 2021, demonstrating a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.3%. Active collection method, the largest market, should reach $83.5 million and $98.5 million in 2016 and 2021, respectively, rising at a five-year CAGR of 3.4%. Passive collection method is expected to increase to $56.2 million by 2021, up from $47.9 million in 2016, with a five-year CAGR of 3.2%.
An increase in R&D aimed at expanding the types of gases that can be detected by a single VOC gas detector should stimulate more demand, along with the capability of gas detectors to detect VOC gas at a low level of concentration. Other drivers include growing demand from Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe. Indoor applications, the largest of all applications, accounted for 47.3% of the global market for VOC gas detectors in 2016.
The market for active gas sampling-based VOC gas detectors is expected to grow at a five-year CAGR of 3.4% to reach $83.5 million and $98.5 million in 2016 and 2021, respectively. The market for passive gas sampling-based VOC gas detectors should grow at a five-year CAGR of 3.2% to reach about $56.2 million in 2021, up from $47.9 million in 2016.
