Global Markets for Reagents for Chromatography

August 30, 2012

Wellesley, Mass.– According to a new technical market research report, GLOBAL MARKETS FOR REAGENTS FOR CHROMATOGRAPHY (MST034D) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), global revenues from chromatography reagents totaled nearly $4.3 billion in 2011 and $5.2 billion in 2012. Total revenues should reach $11.9 billion in 2017 after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18%.

The market for chromatographic reagents can be broken down into seven segments by technique: liquid chromatography, thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis.

Liquid chromatography, the largest segment, should account for $2.4 billion in 2012 and $7.1 billion in 2017, a CAGR of 24%.

Gas chromatography will total $1.1 billion in 2012 and $1.7 billion in 2017, a CAGR of 9.5%.

Ion exchange chromatography is the only other segment expected to reach $1 billion in value over the next five years. This segment should be worth $700 million in 2012 and $1.1 billion in 2017, a CAGR of 9.8%.

Chromatographic methods are commonly used for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of raw materials, drug substances, drug products, and compounds in biological fluids. For example, the concentrations of cocaine in urine, alcohol in blood, and lead in water can be determined by chromatography.

Chromatography techniques and reagents are being used extensively in the research and development of pharmaceutical and biochemical industries for the development of pure drug compounds.  The primary usage of chromatography techniques is for quality assurance of drug products, wherein chromatography separation techniques can, in some cases, assure up to 99.9% purity level and can reveal the impurities to 0.1% or even smaller.  These separation or analysis techniques use chromatography reagents for the measurement of the drug purity, which has led to the growing market of the reagents.

This report will help its readers:

  • Investigate current and future strategies within the chromatography techniques and reagents market
  • Analyze the chromatography market’s inventiveness, its setbacks, and future needs
  • Compare and contrast different types of chromatography products and reagents
  • Learn more about merger, acquisition, and collaborations of chromatography companies
  • Review sales figures broken down by region and forecast market values through 2017.

This study contributes to knowledge and understanding of market growth and setbacks for chromatography reagents from the manufacturer and end-user perspectives.  Pharmaceutical, biochemical, chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage industries, clinics, forensics, and environmental agencies will find this study to be of interest.
