Genitourinary Drugs: Technologies and Global Markets
July 03, 2012
Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, GENITOURINARY DRUGS: TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (PHM115A) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), genitourinary drug revenues totaled $26.5 billion in 2011. This figure is projected to reach nearly $30.8 billion in 2016, a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3%.
The market for genitourinary drugs can be broken down by disease into six categories: hormonal contraceptives, benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence and overactive bladder, infertility, and the last category made up of infection and others.
Hormonal contraceptives accounted for $11 billion in 2011 and should total nearly $14.6 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 5.7%.
BPH was worth $3.5 billion in 2011 and in 2016 should be worth nearly $3.7 billion, a CAGR of 0.8%.
The infertility segment accounted for nearly $1.1 billion in 2011, but is expected to decrease to just $908 million in 2016, a CAGR of -3.5%.
The remaining categories (erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence and overactive bladder, and infection and others) are expected to collectively total $11.6 billion in 2016, 37% of the overall market that year. These categories should experience moderate growth over the next five years, with CAGRs of 1.2%, 1.3% and 1.4%, respectively.
Diseases of the genitourinary system cover a variety of medical areas that can affect both men and women. Some diseases are specific problems for women or men. Other conditions affect both genders. Many drugs have been developed that are relatively specific to each type of disease. New drugs are under development in company pipelines that are intended to be more effective, have fewer side effects, and, in some cases, are less costly than those that are currently on the market.
The genitourinary disease drug market presents a significant part of the overall pharmaceutical product market worldwide. This report investigates the specific classes of genitourinary diseases and the pharmaceutical products for their treatment. For companies with an effective strategy, market opportunity awaits. Importantly, the ability to develop an effective strategy begins with where opportunity exists and ends with how to effectively execute the strategy to capture profit from opportunity.
This report is an invaluable tool for business planners, acquisition specialists, licensing strategists, product managers, market research analysts, investors, investor consultants, and anyone interested in the genitourinary drug market, its products, its industry participants, and its future.
