Global Markets for Plastics Additives
May 18, 2012
Wellesley, Mass. – According to a new technical market research report, GLOBAL MARKETS FOR PLASTICS ADDITIVES (PLS022C) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for plastics additives is projected to be worth $43.1 billion in 2013 and should reach $54.7 billion in 2018, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9% over the five-year period.
The plastics additives market can be broken down by type into four segments: property modifiers, property stabilizers, property extenders, and processing aids.
Property modifiers are projected to account for $24 billion in 2013 and should reach $30.6 billion in 2018, a CAGR of 5%.
Property stabilizers are expected to total nearly $12.3 billion in 2013 and should increase at a CAGR of 4.9% to reach nearly $15.6 billion in 2018.
Property extenders, estimated to be worth $4.9 billion in 2013, should reach nearly $6.2 billion in 2018, increasing at a CAGR of 4.6%.
Processing aids are projected to total nearly $1.9 billion in 2013 and in 2018 should total nearly $2.4 billion, a CAGR of 4.5%.
Additives make plastics safer, cleaner, tougher and more colorful, and in some cases, plastics will not function without them. Additives increase the cost of producing plastics; however, they help conserve precious, raw-material reserves. Without the additives that turn basic polymers into useful plastics and plastic products, the overall use of plastics would be a lot more expensive.
An increase in the construction of homes and other building structures and new design trends in housing construction have increased the market for the most commonly used type of plastic, polyvinyl chloride, and subsequently has increased demand for plastics additives such as the plasticizers used in PVC formulation. Additionally, rigid PVC products are growing more quickly than flexible PVC, and this is expected to increase the market for additives such as impact modifiers and lubricants.
This report will be of help to those in the plastics additives industry responsible for the manufacture, distribution, and supply of plastics additives; namely manufacturers, distributors and suppliers of additives, manufacturers of resins and specialty chemicals, manufacturers and suppliers of masterbatches, existing and new marketing personnel in the plastics additives business, and advisers to the plastics processing and plastics additives industries.
In addition to PLS022C, BCC also has published PLS057A, PLS058A, PLS059A and PLS060A. These reports cover plastics additives with focuses, respectively, on the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, North America, and Emerging Markets.
