Polymeric Flexible Hose and Tubing
August 13, 2008
Wellesley, Mass—According to a new technical market research report, POLYMERIC FLEXIBLE HOSE AND TUBING (PLS012E) from BCC Research, the domestic market for polymeric flexible hose and tubing used reached 804 million pounds in 2007. This is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6% to reach 869 million pounds in 2012.
The market is broken down into thermosetting elastomers, non-elastomeric thermoplastic resins, and thermoplastic elastomers. Of these, non-elastomeric thermoplastic resins have the largest share of the market, using 457 million pounds of materials in 2007. This is expected to increase to 469 million pounds in 2012 for a CAGR of 1.7%.
Thermosetting elastomers have the second largest market share, using 279 million pounds of materials in 2007. This segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.3% to reach 298 million pounds in 2012.
Thermoplastic elastomers represent the smallest but fastest growing segment. Approximately 68 million pounds of materials were used in 2007 and this is expected to increase to 75 million pounds in 2012, a CAGR of 2.0%.
Flexible hose and tubing are established products, and their manufacture has become a moderately large and broad-based sector of the United States economy. Innovations within the industry are creating dynamic changes in what is essentially a stable market that grows at about the rate of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product.
Polymeric flexible hose and tubing are used in automotive, hydraulics, industrial and consumer/healthcare applications. Dynamic changes within the flexible hose and tubing market are driven not only by innovations within these industries, but also by the development of newer hose and tubing materials. Competition between synthetic elastomers and natural rubber is constant and causes fluctuations in the market value of these materials.
