Endoscopy Devices: Applications and Global Markets

September 08, 2011

Wellesley, Mass. – In a recent release, ENDOSCOPY DEVICES: APPLICATIONS AND GLOBAL MARKETS (HLC093A) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global endoscopy market will be worth nearly $24.8 billion in 2011. That value is projected to reach $33.7 billion in 2016 after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4%.

The global endoscopy market can be broken down into eight segments – laparoscopy; urology endoscopy; gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy; arthroscopy; ear, nose and throat; gynecology endoscopy; neurology; and other.

The laparoscopy segment was valued at $6.8 billion in 2011, and is expected to climb to $10.6 billion in 2016, yielding a CAGR of 9.2%.

Urology endoscopy was valued at $4.1 billion in 2011 and in 2016 should be worth nearly $4.9 billion, a CAGR of 3.5%.

GI endoscopy was worth $3.7 billion for 2011, and will be worth $4.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 5.7%.

Arthroscopy totaled $3.2 billion in 2011 and should reach $5 billion in 2016, a 9.1% CAGR.

The ear, nose and throat segment, worth $2.4 billion in 2011, should be worth $3.2 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 5.7%.

The gynecology endoscopy segment was valued at nearly $1.3 billion in 2011, and is expected to rise to nearly $1.5 billion in 2016, yielding a CAGR of 3.4%.

The neurology segment was valued at nearly $1.4 billion in 2011 and in 2016 should be worth nearly $1.7 billion, a CAGR of 3.7%.

The segment comprised of other endoscopies was worth nearly $1.8 billion in 2011, and will be worth $1.9 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 1.4%.

An endoscope is an instrument that allows a doctor or surgeon to look inside the body through existing openings or through small incisions. The endoscope is a metal tube that has a small light source and camera at one end and an eyepiece at the other. Endoscopes may be made from a rigid tube or, more often, from a flexible tube that allows the surgeon to freely move and adjust it as it enters the area that is being observed.

In this report, a range of information will be discussed, including detailed analyses of emerging markets in India and Asia, new products pipelines and new applications for endoscopic technology, and overall industry trends. This information will allow the reader to evaluate and quantify the current market size for specific endoscopic technologies within the overall growing biomedical/pharmaceutical technology market.

The endoscopy market is positioned for significant growth in the next five years. This is due, in part, to new applications for the technology, as well as new innovations in the technology itself.  The other major factor that will contribute to this growth is the recognition of this technology in emerging markets such as Brazil, China, India, Japan, Russia, and Vietnam.

A major constraint on this market is the limited availability of surgeons suitably trained to perform endoscopic surgeries. Increasing regulations and standards being developed and implemented in a wide variety of countries will add to the regulatory paperwork, quality control, and cost of sales of endoscopic products, hindering overall market growth.

This report is an invaluable tool for business planners, acquisitions specialists, licensing strategists, product managers, market research analysts, investors, investor consultants and anyone interested in the endoscopy market, its products, its industry participants, and its future.
