ACCIONA’s Waste2Fiber recycling plant uses thermal treatment to recycle composite materials present in wind turbine blades with an annual processing capacity of around 6,000 tons of waste material. The waste material is processed in a controlled, moderate atmosphere that helps preserve the properties of the recycled reinforcement fibers. The technology can reduce carbon footprints by 66% for glass fibers and 95% for carbon fibers compared to virgin production. The Waste2Fiber facility is designed to cover all the stages of recycling, starting from dismantling and fragmentation of the blades to the output and quality control of the final products.
