Company Overview

Arcadia Biosciences Inc. is an agricultural biotechnology trait company that develops and commercializes yields and traits for a range of crops. Arcadia’s partners develop high-yielding seeds for wheat, rice, soybean, corn, sugarcane, cotton, turf and trees. The company has four key focus areas: GoodWheat, GoodHemp, Nutritional Oils and Animal Nutrition.

Arcadia’s agricultural productivity traits include nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), water use efficiency (WUE), drought tolerance (DT), salinity tolerance (ST) and herbicide tolerance.

Arcadia technologies used in its trait development work are tilling (non-transgenic screening technology to identify desirable genetic variation within plant populations), CRISPR-Cas9 and transgenics.

Arcadia has made many strategic decisions to expand its presence and its portfolio. In May 2020, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Arcadia two patents for increasing the shelf life of whole wheat. This was achieved by reducing hydrolytic and oxidative rancidity. In June 2020, the company completed the acquisition of Oregon-based Industrial Seed Innovations (ISI) industrial hemp breeding and seed company. Arcadia acquired ISI’s seed varieties, germplasm library and intellectual property under this agreement. In August 2020, it collaborated with Corner Foods to market GoodWheat Technology in emerging nations such as China and Israel. Arcadia also signed agreement with Three Farm Daughters to develop and commercialize GoodWheat products. In Europe, the company also partnered with GoodMills Innovation, Europe’s largest milling company, to sell GoodWheat products.

In November 2020, the hemp distribution agreement was signed by Arcadia Biosciences with Tritium 3H, Inc. (T3H), a Canada-based hemp seed manufacturer. In April 2021, Arcadia SPA acquired the assets of Agrasys S.A. to expand the GoodWheat Business portfolio through the European Food Ingredient Platform. In April 2021, Arcadia Biosciences received Health Canada approval for its GoodHemp Varieties, followed by certification from Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA).

In May 2021, Arcadia Biosciences acquired Lief Holdings LLC.
