Company Overview
BrightSource Energy Inc. is an American-Israeli enterprise active in the development of CSP generation facilities. The company emerged with assets and personnel from the bankrupt company Luz International, which built the SEGS parabolic trough plants in Nevada between 1985 and 1991. BrightSource Energy’s manufacturing and technology development branch, BrightSource Industries, is alternatively known as Luz II and has developed proprietary designs from Luz International regarding power tower designs.
In 2013, the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, a 377-MW solar power plant utilizing BrightSource technology came online, delivering power under 25-year power purchase agreements to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and Southern California Edison.
In December 2019, BrightSource Energy developed a solar-cured coating for DEWA Tower CSP. The coating was designed for longer service lifetime and higher absorptance than the standard Pyromark coating and to help reduce O&M costs.
