Carbofex is a Finland-based company founded in 2016. It is a Puro. Earth and EBC-certified biochar producer with proprietary pyrolysis technology for CO₂ removal. The company mainly focuses on agriculture and the livestock industry. It uses pyrolysis technology to turn biomass into CO₂-negative biochar, oil, and gas. The company operates its commercial facility in Tampere, Finland, which was inaugurated in 2017. It is among Europe’s largest EBC-certified biochar production facilities. The facility has a yearly production capacity of 1,000 tons of biochar and 600 tons of oil. It can also generate up to 8,000 MWh of clean energy as part of a municipal heating network. The facility has captured around 9,800,000 kgs of carbon dioxide as of 2024. Carbofex Biochar is approved for the highest FEED+ quality class of the EBC, suitable for soil improvement use without restrictions, even as a feed supplement.
