Company Overview

Digi International develops and supplies stand-alone and embedded M2M components and products such as modules, modems, microprocessors, console servers, satellite communications products, routers, gateways, wireless communication adapters and sensors. The company acquired TempAlert LLC, a provider of temperature monitoring solutions for industries such as healthcare and food. The acquisition should boost the company’s presence in the wireless sensors market.

The company supplies the XBee suite of Zigbee and RF solutions, which includes RF modules, gateways, modems, adapters, sensors, range extenders, and control software. In addition to Zigbee and 802.15.4 technologies, Digi offers a choice of Wi-Fi, mesh, point-to-multipoint, point-to-point, and 802.11 waveforms. XBee supports wireline connectivity technologies that sense humidity, temperature and light. The technologies are used in industrial, medical, smart city, retail, and transportation applications. The sensors operate in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 60°C.

Digi has equipped XBee for thread protocol and continues to engage in newer application domains. Digi provides a multiplicity of wireless and wireline standards in the context of machine-to-machine (M2M). Wireless sensors blend well with the larger solution landscape of Digi. M2M and wireless sensors overlap in their purposes for IoT. Wireless sensors effectively expand the array of use-cases covered by M2M. The IoT opens even newer possibilities for the company. As a result, Digi features wireless sensors in its stand-alone and embedded product categories.
