In May 2016, Genus formed a strategic alliance with Caribou Biosciences, giving Genus access to CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology.

In 2018, Genus performed in-house genome editing on beef and dairy embryos that targeted the CD18 gene. This work provided proof of concept that a single change to this gene could improve resistance to bovine respiratory disease.

Genus edits the CD163 gene in elite PIC genetics to produce pigs that resist PRRSv infection through its subsidiary RenOVAte Biosciences.
