1923 Hentzen Coatings, Inc. was founded in 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by Erwin A. Hentzen with support from Albert L. Hentzen, Sr., initially operating as a proprietorship in a rented toy factory space.
1999 Hentzen established a new powder manufacturing building on Mill Road to meet the capacity demands of the growing powder coating market.

2010 Hentzen acquired Axon Products in Greenville, South Carolina, to broaden product lines in aerospace and specialty wood finishes.
2019 Hentzen established The Hentzen New Materials Co., Ltd., a manufacturing, research, and distribution center in Nanjing, China.
