MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH INC.
Company Snapshot
Company Overview
Membrane Technology Research was founded in 1982 for the development and engineering of membrane-based gas separation systems. The company sold its first commercial gas separation system to the petrochemical industry in 1992. Membrane Technology Research engineers, fabricates and manufactures components for petrochemicals recovery (e.g., propylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride); provides natural gas impurity removal (i.e., removal of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide); and synthetic gas and hydrogen purification. CO2 removal modules can be used at oil and gas wells and are compact enough for offshore platform installation. Membrane Technology Research can handle volumes of more than 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of produced HG or unpurified NG containing more than 40% CO2 and create output streams of more than 95% natural gas. The company’s modules are available to EOR project operators seeking to recycle produced CO2 and other waste gases (hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen) for compression and reinjection. In January 2014, the company completed a project in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a membrane-based process that effectively and efficiently captures CO2 from shifted syngas generated by a coal-fired integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant (i.e., by an advanced, high efficiency coal gasifier). Its Polaris membranes produced 500 pounds per hour of syngas during a demo presented in 2014.
