1989 Novamont S.p.A. was founded as Fertec, a strategic research center for the Montedison Group, to carry out an ambitious and improved project called "Living Chemistry for Quality of Life", which involves research, development, and dissemination of knowledge in materials from renewable sources. 
1992 The company developed its first biodegradable and compostable bioplastics bag made from MATER-BI.
1996 Novamount S.p.A. was acquired by Investitori Associati, a private equity firm, and BCI Capital Ltd., a private credit investment manager.
