1989	Novamont S.p.A. was founded as Fertec, a strategic research center for the Montedison Group, to carry out an ambitious and improved project called "Living Chemistry for Quality of Life", which involves research, development, and dissemination of knowledge in materials from renewable sources.
1992	The company developed its first biodegradable and compostable bioplastics bag made from MATER-BI.
1996	Novamount S.p.A. was acquired by Investitori Associati, a private equity firm, and BCI Capital Ltd., a private credit investment manager.
2004	The company developed ORIGO-BI biopolyesters technology to manufacture biopolyesters with a high level of renewables and components of MATER-BI compostable bioplastics.
2006	Novamont and Coldiretti, an Italian farmer union, formed Sincro, a 50:50 joint venture to develop the production of chemical intermediates and lubricants from renewable resources.
2011	Matrìca is the Versalis-Novamont joint venture set up to reconvert the disused Porto Torres chemical plant to a biorefinery while implementing advanced technologies developed by the Novamont research department.
2012	The company acquired the Piana di Monte Verna biotechnology research center in the Campania region to accelerate its development of industrial biotechnologies.
2014	Novamount acquired a majority stake (78%) in Mater-Biopolymer, which operates a resin plant in Lazio, Central Italy. It was a unit of PET resin maker Gruppo Mossi Ghisolfi.
2016	The company opened a Mater-Biotech plant in Bottrighe to produce butanediol on an industrial scale directly from sugars and through bacteria.
2019	The company started the construction of a demo plant for the production of furan dicarboxylic acid in Terni.
2021	Novamont acquired BioBag Group, one of the leading suppliers of low-impact waste collection and packaging solutions, to benefit from BioBag's highly specialized independent distribution in areas where the buyer is less present.
