RADIOMETER MEDICAL APS
Company Snapshot
Company Overview
Radiometer A/S is a subsidiary of Danaher Corp. that develops, manufactures and markets solutions for blood sampling, blood gas analysis, transcutaneous monitoring, immunoassay testing and related IT management systems under the ABL, AQT, TCM, RADIANCE, AQURE, PICO, CLINITUBES and QUALICHECK brand names. The product list includes instruments for measuring blood gases and electrolytes, oximetry in vivo pH measurements and transcutaneous monitoring of blood gases.
In 1973, Radiometer introduced the first fully automated pH/blood gas analyzer, the ABL1. In 1980, the ABL3 was introduced with an integrated cathode ray tube (CRT) screen and control keyboard that could provide user interface capabilities. In 1985, Radiometer introduced the first instrument to measure oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration. The OSM3 incorporated a monochrometer to accurately measure hemoglobin on multiple wavelengths. This enabled the measurement of dyshemoglobin, carboxyhemoglobin and methemoglobin.
In 1989, the ABL500 blood gas analyzers were introduced. These instruments had onboard software and were capable of measuring 40 samples per hour or 1,000 samples per day. The ABL520 measured both direct oxygen-carrying hemoglobin (oxyhemoglobin) and the non-oxygen-carrying hemoglobin (carboxyhemoglobin and methemoglobin). Introduced in 1992, ABL505 could, in addition to blood gases, measure electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride. These instrument models comprised about 65% of Radiometer’s installed base in the U.S. in 1996.
Currently, the company’s key products include:
- The ABL800 Flex Analyzer measures the same parameters as the ABL700 analyzer. The ABL800 Flex Analyzer’s FLEXQ module automatically identifies, mixes and measures up to three samples in succession. Samples are automatically conveyed to the inlet and aspirated into the analyzer, so operators are free to return to their patients. The ABL800 Flex Analyzer has 128 wavelengths for full CO-oximetry. It also has automatic measurement and suppression of interferences from fetal hemoglobin, bilirubin, intralipids and sulfhemoglobin.
- The AQT90 FLEX analyzer is for IVD use. The instrument is an immunoassay instrument based on the quantitative determination of time-resolved fluorescence to estimate the concentrations of clinically relevant markers on whole blood and plasma specimens to which a relevant anticoagulant has been added. It is intended for use in POC and laboratory settings.
- The AQT90 FLEX Myo Test is an IVD assay for the quantitative determination of myoglobin in EDTA or li-hep whole blood or plasma specimens on the AQT90 FLEX analyzer in POC and laboratory settings. It is indicated for use as an aid in the rapid diagnosis of heart disease such as AMI.
- The AQT90 FLEX Myo CAL cartridge is for IVD use, for calibration adjustment of the Myo Test, as indicated on the cartridge, on the AQT90 FLEX analyzer.
