Company Overview
Ørsted specializes in development and construction of wind farms (offshore and onshore), solar farms, and facilities for renewable hydrogen, energy storage, green fuels, and bioenergy. The company is not exclusively focused on CDRs, as it has a diversified portfolio of various renewable energy sources. However, the company is actively involved in BECCS-based CDR projects. Its technology involves carbon capture through biomass-fired power plants and storing them underground.
The company is establishing its carbon capture plant “Ørsted Kalundborg CCS hub” in Denmark. SLB Capturi, a joint venture between Aker Carbon Capture and SLB will provide five Just Catch carbon capture units with additional liquefaction systems and temporary carbon dioxide storage and onloading/offloading facilities to Ørsted. These units are installed at Ørsted’s wood chip-fired Asnæs Power Station and the Avedøre Power Station’s straw-fired boiler with combined carbon capture capacity of 500,000 tons per year. The plant is expected to be online by the end of 2025.
