Company Overview

Shell is a global oil and gas company that produces and markets chemicals. In the journey to become a net zero energy emission business by 2050, the company has invested in renewable energy and low-carbon transport fuels like biofuels, advanced biofuels, and hydrogen. It has a presence in more than 70 countries. The company mainly operates in integrated gas and upstream, as well as downstream, renewables, and energy solutions segments. These two categories are divided into sub-segments: integrated gas, upstream, marketing, chemicals and products, and renewables and energy solutions (R&ES).

Its renewables and energy solutions segment indulges in the development of commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs, investment in nature-based projects that avoid or reduce carbon emissions (NBS), and Shell Ventures, which invests in companies working to accelerate the energy and mobility transformation. The company has 33.3% interest in the Northern Lights Joint Venture, a JV between Shell, Equinor and TotalEnergies. Phase I of this project is expected to be online by 2025. In 2023, the JV signed agreements with other companies, including Norwegian Yara International and Danish Ørsted, for the transport and permanent storage of captured CO2 and the marking for CCS in Europe.
