Company Overview

Taiyo Yuden is a leading manufacturer of electronic components, including ceramic capacitors and arrays, magnetic devices (inductors, coils, and ferrite beads), filters, high-frequency dielectric components, thermistors, supercapacitors, circuit devices, and wireless modules.

The company also provides piezoelectric components, primarily pressure wave sensors that are able to detect very small changes in pressure and vibration and create high-resolution acceleration waveforms continuously. These multilayer devices have other applications in haptic technology, musical instruments and vibration control sensors.

For portable devices, Taiyo Yuden has developed multilayer actuators based on sodium niobate modified with strontium and calcium. By introducing a texturing process, the company has been able to achieve a d33 of 240 pC/N and a TC of 300°C.

In addition, Taiyo Yuden has developed a modified bismuth titanate ceramic with oriented grains, manufactured by low-temperature sintering (below 1,100°C) and a bismuth sodium titanate material in which the material composition if engineered to prevent bismuth abnormal grain growth and achieve uniform microstructure, resulting in improved piezoelectric properties.

The company reported global sales of $2.8 billion in 2020.
