Terrapass was launched in 2004 by Dr. Karl Ulrich at the University of Pennsylvania. Terrapass specializes in environmental sustainability services based in the U.S., primarily focusing on enabling individuals and businesses to offset their carbon footprint. It provides a free online tool to calculate the carbon footprint of individuals and businesses based on different factors like energy consumption, travel habits, and waste generation. It helps them evaluate their environmental impact and identify areas for improvement. In 2023, Terrapass customers supported around 0.28 MMT of carbon offsets, equivalent to planting more than 4.5 million trees. The company uses three global standards: the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Climate Action Reserve, Green-e, Gold Standard, CSA Group, and American Carbon Registry.
