1994 Borealis was formed through the merger of Statoil and Neste, the largest industrial merger in Nordic Europe.
1998 OMV's petrochemical sector was incorporated into Borealis. OMV and the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) acquired Neste's 50% business share in Borealis, making it part of their joint venture. This integration was a key component of OMV's petrochemical integration efforts.

2017 Borealis AG and NOVA Chemicals Corporation signed a preliminary agreement to form a joint venture (JV) with Total Petrochemicals and Refining USA, Inc. that will develop and own a new light feed cracker and a new Borstar polyethylene (PE) facility in Bayport, Texas.
2019 Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Adani Group, BASF, and Borealis AG signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a joint feasibility study to further evaluate a collaboration to establish a chemical complex in Mundra, Gujarat, India.
