CELL MICROSYSTEMS
Company Snapshot
Company Overview
Cell Microsystems Inc., founded as a spin-out from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, develops research tools for the life sciences industry. Its main platforms, IsoRaft and CellRaft, consist of arrays of microwells that allow researchers to sort, isolate and analyze single cells. After isolating a cell, it is transferred from the array to a vessel for conducting PCR or NGS analysis.
CellRaft arrays are composed of 12,000 (200 by 200 microns) or 44,000 (100 by 100 microns) individual rafts. Each CellRaft comprises a separate culture site for individual cells or colonies. Single cells are selected from the rafts and can then be analyzed or expanded into clonal colonies.
The Cell Microsystems platform has applications in liquid biopsy for analyzing CTCs.
In August 2023, Cell Microsystems acquired automated patch clamp technology and cell-based assay tools manufacturer Fluxion Biosciences. This acquisition will help the company’s CellRaft technology to increase its usage for researchers and life science professionals globally. In October 2022, the company entered into an agreement with OLS OMNI Life Sciences to distribute its cell culture, cell counting, flow cytometry, imaging, and cell analysis products in Europe.
