Company Overview
China Mobile was founded as China Telecom (Hong Kong) Ltd. before changing its name to China Mobile in 1997. It is a state-owned telecommunications company and the world’s largest mobile phone operator, with 760 million subscribers. China Mobile, like many other telecom companies, has begun to recognize the potential and benefits of mHealth. It has been monitoring and researching health-related data transmitted over its network and started to support the development of a business model that can be integrated into the Chinese mHealth arena. The research is being undertaken in collaboration with the company’s regional subsidiaries, private research organizations and Cambridge University.
