2009 Climeworks was founded by Jan and Christoph at the end of 2009 as a spin-off company of ETH Zurich. It specializes in direct air capture and sequestration technology.
2014 Climeworks has developed its first small-scale DAC plant, a modular CO₂ collector that has begun operation.
2019 Climeworks AG and Antecy B.V. partnered to combine technologies for the solution of both carbon dioxide removal and direct air capture, as well as CO₂ utilization.
2021 Microsoft has purchased the carbon dioxide removal solution from Climeworks to expand its portfolio and achieve negative emissions by 2030, as well as remove the company’s historic emissions by 2050.
