Helixworks Technologies, founded in 2016, is developing the Molecular Storage Systems (MoSS) platform, which uses DNA as the storage medium. MoSS is offered as an open platform system. The company markets synthetic DNA to the research and synthetic biology industries. The company’s proprietary platform is an integration of enzymatic synthesis of long strands of DNA with minimum errors, programmable architectures suitable for custom data behavior, and novel ssDNA and RNA sequencing technologies making DNA read and write process more accurate and affordable. The DNA data storage products offered by Helixworks technology are promising in terms of readability, security, privacy, and affordability. The products meet FDA and EPA standards. A centralized network or cloud is not needed to read back the data. The company has a proprietary process for synthesizing long strands of DNA; the process enables long length and high quality compared with traditional DNA synthesis methods.

Helixworks Technologies’ products use smart nano materials for DNA data storage and security. The nanomaterial is comprised of programmable DNA molecules that encode the molecular equivalent of up to 256KB of digital information directly into the product.

In January 2022, Helixworks Technologies was one of the two Irish startups that received more than Euro 3 million in funding for its intelligent molecular storage system. The funding will be granted by the EIC transition program which is a part of the Euro 95.5 billion Horizon Europe research and innovation initiative.
