KWS Saat SE develops, produces and distributes seeds to farmers. The company’s key area of expertise is in breeding new high-yielding plant varieties that can be adapted to diverse local conditions. The company’s largest market segment is sugar beet (70% of company earnings), but it also focuses on a range of agricultural crops, including corn and cereals (e.g., rye, wheat, barley).

KWS employs a range of breeding technologies to develop new varieties, including genome analysis, cell culture, hybrid breeding, biotechnology, bioinformatics and gene editing.

• Corn : This segment covers breeding, production, and distribution of seed for corn and sunflowers, as well as production and distribution of soybeans.
• Cereals : This segment includes the breeding, production, and distribution of seed for rye, wheat, barley and oilseed rape.
• Vegetables : This segment comprises vegetable seed breeding, production, and distribution.
• Corporate : A segment which by and large does not conduct any operational activities. Its relatively low net sales come from the revenue from our own farms in Germany, France, and Poland.
