| 1983 | Nichia started the production sales of GaAlAs (Gallium Aluminum Arsenic) epitaxial wafers for IR LED, expanding into the opto-semiconductor business. |
| 1994 | Nichia succeeded in developing a high-luminous bluish-green LED, leading to the conversion of traffic signals. |
| 2001 | Nichia created a violet Laser Diode, which was believed to be more challenging to develop than a blue LED. |
