Company Overview
Rolls-Royce a manufacturer of automobiles. The company subsequently expanded its manufacturing capabilities to aircraft engines to assist war efforts in World War I. In subsequent decades, the company developed aircraft turbines for civilian and defense aircraft and maintained its automobile business. Financial troubles caused by aircraft turbine development led to the nationalization of Rolls-Royce Ltd. in 1971 and the divestiture of its automobile business. Rolls-Royce became a private company again in 1987 as Rolls-Royce PLC. Through an expansion of existing manufacturing and development capabilities as well as several acquisitions, Rolls-Royce entered the markets for gas turbines, power system turbomachinery and marine propulsion technologies in the 1990s.
Rolls-Royce is a leading turbomachinery and power equipment supplier to the oil and gas production industry. Barrel compressors and compression system prime movers (electric motors, gas turbines, engines) are available through Rolls-Royce for implementation within gas compression and injection systems. Rolls-Royce has experience in the design, manufacture, installation and service of gas reinjection compressors and systems required for HG flooding EOR technology. In May 2014, Siemens announced the acquisition of Rolls-Royce Energy, its aero-derivative gas turbine and compressor business. In October 2019, Rolls-Royce acquired electric and hybrid-electric aerospace propulsion activities of Siemens to bring cleaner and quieter class of air transport in their product and service portfolio. The company has been among the trusted partners of the U.K. army for more than 20 years for its distribution generation systems such as mobile tactical power units (TPUs), networks & microgrids, vehicle auxiliary power units (APUs), naval power generation, containerized power systems.

- Defence: This segment is engaged in the development, manufacture, marketing and sales of military aero engines, naval engines, submarine nuclear power plants and aftermarket services. Its sub-segments include transport (33%), combat (24%), submarines (21%), naval (9%), and others (13%).
- Power Systems: This segment is engaged in the development, manufacture, marketing and sales of integrated solutions for onsite power and propulsion. Its sub-segments include power generation (34%), marine (31%), industrial (25%), defence (10%).
- New Markets: This segment is engaged in the development, manufacture and sales of small modular reactors (SMR) and new electrical power solutions. Its sub-segments include Rolls-Royce electrical (62%), and Rolls-Royce SMR (38%).
