Company Overview
Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chila S.A. (SQM S.A.) was founded in 1968 through a joint venture between Compañía Salitrera Anglo Lautaro S.A. and the Production Development Corp., a Chilean government entity. SQM is an integrated manufacturer of lithium and its derivatives, including lithium carbonate, specialty plant nutrients, iodine, lithium, potassium fertilizers and industrial chemicals. In 2022, the company sold its lithium products in approximately 41 countries to approximately 198 customers, which are mostly out of Chile.
The lithium and its derivatives sold by the company include lithium carbonate, which is used in EV batteries, portable computers and tablets, smartphones and ceramic glass.
