Stegra, formerly known as H2 Green Steel, was founded in 2020 with the mission to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries, starting with the steel sector. Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, the company is constructing its flagship plant in Boden, which aims to be one of the most extensive facilities for producing green hydrogen, iron, and steel. Stegra’s innovative approach uses renewable energy sources to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to traditional steelmaking methods. The plant in Boden is set to commence production by 2026 and is designed to be fully integrated and digitalized, marking a significant step in the clean industrial revolution. By 2030, Stegra aims to produce 5 million tons of green steel yearly. The company aims to expand its impact beyond steel by leveraging its expertise in green hydrogen to decarbonize other heavy industries.
