Company Overview
Founded in 1905, Yara is a crop nutrition company that operates in 60 countries. The company has 26 production plants and produces nitrate, calcium nitrate, and micronutrient fertilizer fertilizers. The company also produces green and low-carbon fertilizers. The company also provides other solutions like digital farming tools and solutions to improve sustainability in food production.
In 2021, the company formed a separate business unit, Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA), to concentrate on producing green and blue ammonia. With this segment, Yara plans to capture opportunities in the zero-carbon food solutions, power, and shipping sectors. The company is assessing new green and blue ammonia projects to serve the demand for clean ammonia.
In 2023, Yara Clean Ammonia signed a letter of intent with Enbridge to jointly develop a blue ammonia production facility as an equal partner. The blue ammonia production capacity is expected to be 1.2 million to 1.4 million tons annually. The project is currently under the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase, and production is expected to start in 2027-28. The investment for the project could range from $2.6 billion to $2.9 billion with a 95% carbon reduction capacity.
