Last Month to Register for FLAME 2018 Conference
April 20, 2018
WELLESLEY, Mass. April 20, 2018 – BCC Research’s annual FLAME 2018 conference begins on May 20, 2018 and runs through May 23, 2018, which leaves only one month to register for this event. The 29th annual conference features more than 30 papers and has set the standard in the industry for covering the latest developments in flame retardancy.
“This conference has a lot of presentations about the pioneered research: new concepts and new ideas in flame retardancy,” said Kelvin Shen, PhD, longtime conference attendee and short course instructor. “Overall, it’s a little bit more academic than other conferences that emphasize only commercial products – but this conference, of course, also covers commercial products.”
The conference papers center on foams and fabrics, nanocomposites, phosphorus, and new developments in flame retardants, especially polymers and instrumentation. A highlight of the main conference is a series of about 12 talks on fabrics, foams and textiles.
On the academic side, the conference hosts a student-led “Poster Session.” On Monday, May 21, 2018, students from universities around the world, including the U.S., France, Germany and China, will present their research – displayed on posters – to conference attendees. Topics covered in the poster session are as varied as the main conference presentation, and this section provides a look at how scientific research and academic institutions are interacting within the industry.
“We often wonder who will take over the field of flame retardancy after we’re gone, and of course, it will be these students,” said the conference’s chairman Chuck Wilkie.
The conference features a one-day intensive short course, “Selection, Evaluation and Commercial Applications of Flame Retardant Polymers.” Held prior to the main conference, the course is designed for technical specialists new to this industry. The course consists of three interactive lectures by prominent industrial scientists: Matthew Blais, Sergei Levchik and Kelvin Shen.
The 2018 FLAME Conference is proudly sponsored by Albemarle, Deatak, GBH International and Pinfa. Sponsorships are still available.
