These devices have come a long way. And they are finding added utility in these days of COVID. With an aging population and rising rates of obesity and diabetes, CPAP (continuouspositive airway pressure) machines have been experiencing a heyday for several yearsnow. In adults, these devices are used primarily to either prevent upper airway collapse,as seen in sleep apnea, or ease the mechanical effort that goes into breathing, as inpatients with heart failure.
