Company Overview
Unitika is a major Japanese producer of nylon and polyester films. Like Ube, its U.S. operation is a trading company that imports products for sale in the Western hemisphere. The company’s main segments are textiles, glass, plastics and carbon fiber products. It is also known for its films, which are used in consumer products like athletic apparel and food packaging. Unitika manufactures and exports two polymer films, polyester and nylon. The company says that its Emblem brand biaxially oriented nylon film accounts for one-half of the total global share of nylon film for food packaging.
The core of the Unitika Group’s production, development and research, is located in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Its first nylon film plant was located in Kyoto, Japan. It has 46 subsidiary companies across Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Brazil and the U.S.
