Winners Chosen at FLAME 2017 Conference Poster Session

Wellesley, Mass., Jun 29, 2017 – Aleksandra Sut and Shiran Yu were chosen as co-winners  28th Annual Conference on Recent Advances in Flame Retardancy of Polymeric Materials.

The event was held June 11-14, 2017 and coordinated by BCC Research. Hundreds of corporate, academic and industry professionals gathered outside Boston for the field’s leading conference. BCC Research has hosted the event since its inception.

Sut, a chemistry post-doctorate research fellow at The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, Germany, presented on Solid-State NMR Identifying the Chemistry in Multicomponent Flame-Retarded Polyolefin Systems.

Yu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Plastics Engineering Department at University of Massachusetts Lowell. His winning entry was on Phenolic Derivatives as Flame Retardants.

As part of the competition, students had up to five minutes to present their research, followed by poster presentations that were scored by the conference attendees. Other topics included:

  • Larger Aspect Ratio Clay Nanoplatelets for Improved Flame Barrier on Polyurethane Foam
  • Properties and Characterization of Two Flame Retardant Polybutylene Terephthalate Compounds
  • Investigation of Flame Retarded Organic/inorganic Composite Aerogels with Improved Fire Safety.
