Company Overview
Braskem is a petrochemical company based in So Paulo, Brazil. The company is one of the major petrochemical companies in Latin America. Braskem has customers in more than 70 countries.
Braskem’s product portfolio includes plastic and chemicals, solvent-based, hot melt adhesives and specialty chemicals. Braskem’s solutions can be found in a variety of automotive products, including paints, lubricants and fuels, tire rubber and internal parts. It is involved in the production of thermoplastic resins and PE biopolymers from renewable raw materials in the Americas.
The company is focused on producing polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins, along with basic chemical inputs such as propylene, ethylene, butadiene, toluene, benzene, chlorine, soda and solvents, among others.
In July 2019, Braskem invested around $250,000 to develop HE-70 solvent made from sugarcane. This biobased oxygenated solvent exhibits lower toxicity and greater solvency power compared to conventional hydrocarbon solvents.

Company's Business Segments
- Brazil : This segment comprises (a)the production and sales chemicals at the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex, Triunfo Petrochemical Complex, Capuava Petrochemical Complex, and Duque de Caxias Petrochemical Complex; (b) the supply of electricity and other inputs developed in these complexes to second-generation producers based in petrochemical complexes; (c) the production and sales of polyethylene (PE) such as production of green PE from renewable resources and polypropylene (PP); and (d) the production and sales of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and caustic soda.
- U.S. and Europe : This segment performs operations on PP production and sales in the U.S. and Europe through the subsidiaries Braskem America and Braskem Alemanha.
- Mexico : This segment includes the activities related to PE production and sales in Mexico through the subsidiary Braskem Idesa.
- Other : This segment substantially comprises Cetrel's activities.
