Global Market for Acoustic Wave Sensors to Register 6.5% CAGR

The June 2017 report predicts the market for acoustic wave sensors will grow from nearly $6.0 billion in 2016 to nearly $8.2 billion by 2021.

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are gaining popularity due to their increasing applications in different markets such as industrial, military, communications, and safety monitoring. The BCC Research study also finds that the demand for bulk acoustic wave (BAW) sensors is growing rapidly as it migrates from the military and high-end industrial markets into consumer wireless applications.

• The U.S. TREAD (Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development) Act and the EU TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) issued by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the E.U., respectively, are expected to drive the market until 2021.
• SAW and BAW sensors are estimated to grow at a 7.1% CAGR and a 5.4% CAGR, respectively, from 2016 to 2021.
• At 1.8 to 1.9 GHz, BAW sensors become very competitive against SAW sensors, with improved performance, and against ceramic filters, with significant size reduction in handset designs.
